Tootsie Pop Drop

Two nights in a row, Kayleigh woke me up around 3am and then I couldn't get back to sleep. Last night, she couldn't either. I stayed up messing around on the computer and she watched a movie and ate granola bars. I knew she'd by dying later in the day since she had school. She barely made the ride to school without falling asleep. Around 6pm, she went up to her room to watch a movie and this is what I found:

Actually, that Tootsie Pop is laced with Benadryl!

A Healthier Us

One of our (or rather my) goals is to help us start eating healthier. I've been trying to avoid processed foods and to buy organic whenever possible. Finding organic foods hasn't been very easy. Most of our grocery stores carry very few items. I've found that Harmons has the most selection, but then I'm missing out on my price matching at WalMart. I've also only found one healthfood store in our area and that's way over on Riverdale Rd. They have a Whole Foods in Salt Lake, but that's quite a trip to make. I guess I could, conceivably, have Matt go since he's down there, but it's still clear across town for him.

Anyway, I've been doing a lot of cooking from scratch and substituting for more nutritious ingredients where I can. Not a very enjoyable project for me, since I don't much like cooking to begin with, but I'm surviving. I think we've only managed to find one meal that we've actually liked enough to have again and it was only semi-good for us (Parmesean Chicken).

It's definitely an adventure!

Shredded Lettuce?

Matt has always had this thing of picking the crusty boogies out of Kayleigh's nose. She's had about a gazillion colds since she started school, so he's been pretty busy. He told her the flakes looked like shredded cheese, then decided it was more like shredded lettuce. She came back with the following:

The Muppet Movie

Kayleigh and I saw "The Muppet Movie" tonight at this little $3 theater in Ogden. We hadn't ever been there and it was surprisingly clean and decent. For $9, we both got in and she got a kid's combo that included popcorn, a drink and a candy. I got to hear "The Rainbow Connection" and "Mahna, Mahna..." two of my favorite muppet songs. The RC always makes me teary-eyed.

Week in Review and Ahead

Our week hasn't been too exciting. The other night, Kayleigh participated in a school concert of sorts. This guy, Steve James, came to Roy High School and had each grade sing a song to do with "stranger danger," not being bullies, standing up for your friends, making good choices, etc. Kales was really nervous, but was fine once we got there with her friends.

Matt is gone until Thursday to a sales conference in Salt Lake. They put him up in a hotel so he doesn't have to drive back and forth every night. Then next Monday he leaves for Maryland for four days. Jaxon isn't here either until Thursday, so it's kind of quiet around here.

Kayleigh and I went to the Salt Palace last night for a going-away party for Allyson Jackson - my old boss and good friend. It was so great to see lots of my old coworkers. I didn't realize how much I miss them. They are such good people and good friends. It almost makes me want to go back to work there. Even if K was in school all day, I don't know how I'd make it work though. We just live too far away. Maybe someday...

Tonight, I think we're going to go see the Muppet Movie.
